Sheep Photo dump 3/08/2024

You can really see the progression of the sheep through this lower section of the farm in the photos from this past week.  The pictures below highlight a week and a half of sheep grazing.  We're running the sheep in small paddocks which are moved daily.  This type of management goes by many names which would all fall under the umbrella of "regenerative agriculture".  This type of livestock management is a win for the environment, the land, the consumer, and the livestock.  Condensing the sheep into small paddocks which are frequently moved allows us to avoid the use of chemical dewormers.

In the above picture you can see 3 paddocks. Yesterday's is the bare paddock to the right, the one in the center is today's paddock that we just moved them into, and the paddock on the left is for tomorrow.  The natural patterns of intense animal land disturbance followed by long periods of rest is extremely beneficial to the health of the soil which in turn benefits everything on top of it.

This set of twins was just born a few hours before the photo was taken. The contrast between the paddocks is amazing!  The sheep look forward to their daily move to fresh grass.

Lightus is 1 of our livestock guardian dogs that is in charge of keeping the sheep and lambs safe.  He is usually the first one into the new paddock.

The panoramic shot below shows the past 10 days of rotations.  Ideally the sheep will not come back to this area for 90 days or more allowing the forage to recover.

  1. I'm so happy to see your farm operation on the Stovall House property. It is a positive sign that regenerative agriculture is ALIVE and GROWING in Georgia. We need MORE farmers like you!
